i just spoke to one of my friends about it...he's not too worried about it cuz he says that he promises me that this won't happen because he happens to be friends with a representative. he asked where i was getting the info from i told him it was from a lead mod on the discussion forums. he says not to believe what a mod says unless it's from a client developer otherwise falsified information.

nope. this is just computer science 101. client/server architecture, APIs, and RPC. you're free to ask your friend if he knows what RPC is, how it works, and how many web applications he's written.

anyway, we're all just speculating here.

my point is simply that "sunsetting the classic client" could mean different things. it could mean they only stop supporting the desktop app, they stop updating it, stop tracking bugs, etc., but the version we've got installed on our PC still works for a few more years because the web API being used is the same as the beta client, or it could mean that they actually shut off classic support on the server side and the beta client uses a different API.

in this situation, "support" and "sunset" can mean different things. idk what they really plan to do, i'm speculating like everybody else, but i do know their app still follows general design patterns of client/server applications. that is an invariant of this kind of app.

i can also say that right now for me at least the beta app pretty much sucks. YMMV. if IMVU totally shuts off the classic client such that my installed copy stops working, and if they haven't fixed the graphics of the beta client to look the same, then i will move on to some other place. probably others will too. whatever. good luck to them.

personally, i would not go talking to imvu staff about any of this, for if they really want to push us all off the classic client, it probably won't help to tell them how we're thinking of continuing to use it. i hope that isn't their plan, but again we'll see.

@blueDay

everyone who has tried out the new client all agree that it sucks lol xD there's still alot of things that need to be added in and fixed first before it gets fully released to the pubic. too many bugs and glitches on there i hear :P

luckily it was only one mod who claimed the 1 year or so left of classic client...i haven't seen any other comments from other staff about it so hopefully they're just saying it so that we'll move to the new client. i'll keep an eye on the discussions comments if anything comes up. hopefully we still got a few more years left to play around with classic so that they can fix and add stuff to the new client.

@blueDayInfortunately if that was the case, I think they would already had done something years ago when the desktop version was announced. If they are doing this, I believe it's something they can take the L.
@Tenenteknowing that they already loss a chunk of mac users since apple stopped supporting 32 bit systems...yeah...they're gonna lose another huge chunk of users from classic client cuz the new one still has a ton of issues and features that aren't added in yet!

@sadecatgirl

Yeah, it just confirms that they are willing to sacrifice the old player base for the new one. and since Windows holds like 90% of the PC market, it's going to be bigger then the MAC one. But it's like I said, it's something they are willing to loose. not to mention that the mobile player base must be bigger then the PC one.

idk how many people even use the mobile app to visit chat rooms...u can't check the kbs on there, u get kicked out if u close the app for a few mins, can't save AP photos without having it being posted, plus it lags to much! i'm sure that the pc version of it works a bit better but still...

Thats the thing, they aren't focused on Quality, if that was a thing, they would had listened to the feedback a long time ago. They just did a PC port of the mobile version so they wouldn't have more work in updating 2 clients in different ways and they already had the design phase from the mobile.

600+ comments on vu discussions page and 700+ comments on instagram....damn...ofc majority of them are negative. -sighs- i wish someone in vu will just listen to us :( i did saw one comment from a while back that says that one of the ceo's of vu admitted in an old article that they dont listen to the feedback and shit :( the article wasn't linked so im not sure if that's 100% true but i'll take a quick look to see when i get the chance.

Unfortunately I doubt it. That whole post intention is so that people can vent out their beautiful new VIP tiers. Even though the moderators are saying that they want suggestions so they can send that to the team, I feel this is going to be more of the "We're listening to feedback" meme other than actually considering the suggestions made.

Either way, I'm already starting SL So I can get used to it before they end classic so I don't have problem with the transition.

@blueDay

Also forgot to comment about this, but you made a really good point. by "retiring", are they talking about the support updates or actually end the client access?

I guess only with time we will figure this out.

hopefully once the new client gets all fixed and has stuff that classic has (like shop together) i'll give it a try...even though i've read that the new client uses more storage and stuff compared to classic o-o not sure if it's cuz they built it from the ground up or not...but for now let's enjoy the time left we have with classic client.

@sadecatgirl

Yeah it's all from the ground up compared to classic.
It's like I said in a previous post, I wouldn't mind to give a try to get used to the new desktop version, but the downgrade of graphics (I don't know if you had a chance to see it, but the Avatars are much "cartoony" in the desktop version) + products being bugged (Including appearence one's) really destroys any interest of migrating there.
