For most IMVU users, credits don't come easily or cheaply. For this reason, I decided to write up some useful tips to help you save and get more out of your hard earned credits.
Tip 1) Sort products by lowest price.
When browsing the IMVU catalog, you can tell it to show cheaper items first. To do this, go to the IMVU catalog then after searching for something or selecting a category, you will have a drop down menu in the upper right. Click it and select "Price: Low to High". Now, you're bound to see lots of irrelevant items and low quality items but take your time to look through the pages and you may find something you were looking for a very cheap price.
Tip 2) Try before buying! (Never use the buy it now button!)
There's nothing worse then buying something from the catalog only to find out it doesn't look good like you thought or doesn't fit in your room or was fake.
When you find a product you like or think you like, make sure you use the try it button first. You may find out that the product isn't what it claims to be or doesn't look as good as you thought it would. The try it button can be found on the on catalog page below the product icon or on the product page on the right.
You can use your own outfit while trying on clothing to see if it will match or look good. To do this, use the try it button on the item you want. When it opens up in the shop, click on your outfit tab at the bottom. From there you can add any clothing you own to the product you're thinking about buying. That way, you can make sure a pair of shoes or a top is gonna look good with your outfit or on a particular skin or avatar.
When trying on a furniture product, do the same as you would with clothes above, except click on your room tab and choose the room you were thinking of furnishing. You may find out that it doesn't look good in the room you want.
Tip 3) Check other derivations.
When you find a product you like, chances are it's not the only one of its kind or the cheapest. On the product page of the product you like, click the "Derived from" link (if it has one). This will bring up the product page of the mesh the creator used to make the product you like. From there click on "Derivations". This will show you all of the other products created with that mesh. You may find something you like better or cheaper doing this.
Tip 4) Ask the developer for a discount.
Some developers are happy to give you a discount if you promise to leave a good review. Not all developers will do this and you should not beg for it. Simply leave them a nice short message asking them if they would be willing to give you a small discount on the product in exchange for a good review. If you do find a developer who agrees to give you a discount, make sure you leave a positive and well written review for them. Don't ever take the discount and run.
If you guys have any other tips you think should be added to this guide, let me know!
